German Company makes Interceptor Alloy Cylinders (Nov 04, 2002)
It´s right!
There is a German Company ( it´s a good friend ) producing Interceptor
cylinders. I´ve got them - but the mine are the prototyp - made
from a special aluminum material - CNC mashined and nicasil coated.
With the original bore - 736 ccm.
Friends and me visited the last Manx classic races in Aug./Sept. 2002.
I drove my Interceptor - now with 4500 km more on the clock. No problems
with the cylinders.
The bike has not be ridden very fast with the crowd - between 55-75
mph.
But sometimes I tested the higher pace - the clock shows me the 105
mph and I felt there was a little bit more.
And no vibrations that´s very important.
The engine is mostly original but the oilsystem is a little bit improved.
I did some improvements more with the electricalsystem and ignition.
The bike is very reliable and starts with two or three kicks.
For more information or pics give me some lines per email.

and Spareparts Corner, "Royal" )
Hello Klaus, Sehr Gut, Vieleicht hast du einer Photo
mit Deiner MotorRad. So habe ich ein bischen Deutsch versucht. Asch
so viele Jahren nicht Deutsch gesprochen.
Thanks for your feedback Klaus. Great to hear about your interceptor.
Do you have any photos to email? Are there more interceptors in Deutschland
Why did you have to relace the cylinders?
Cheers
Royal
Hi "Royal"
got your remail - many thanks think your German is better like my English
- but does´nt matter- the only that count are the bikes.
Regarding your question why I´ve had to replace the old cylinder
is the overbore. We tried it with the fourth overbore but the result
was´nt so nice. After 600 mls the bore was´nt round more
oval.
The mainproblem was now the thinness of the ironcast material. The
next problem is to come by a new barrel - not possible. You must know
the Interceptor is not my only Britbike - I´ve got two Triumphs
as well. My friend has got many skillness in producing models and prototypes
for the carindustry - and he´s got many old britbikes. One day
he decided to produce his own barrel for Triumph Twins. All the stuff
you can buy from UK is without any quality and reliability. Allmost
ironcast with shrinked in steelbarrel in the ironcast cylinder.
So my friend started the Triumph cylinder production with 650 and
750 ccm made from a hightech sandcastaluminum material. The rough shells
will be bored in the customsize and finished.
You get Cylinders with less wight, nicasil coated with a better termical
condition, no material mix like the old ones. I´ve got one for
test and I can only say after many miles without trouble, it works great.
I rebuilded the cylinder several times for inspection - result - nothing
to see - no scratches - nothing.
And the oil keeps clean - no rub down from material and the usual
graphite derivates.
Now you know the background. Now I have the luck to know this guy
and he made two new cylinders from a full material block of spezial
duraluminum. Because he thought there is no need for so many units to
make a model for the same sandcastaluminum procedure. But the last time
the mails and questions for R.E. cylinders will get more.
I told you
from my Ile of man visit.I met there some further Interceptor owners.
One MKII and MKI from UK, one MKII and MKI from Sweden.
I send you some pics from my Lady and from IOM.(part1)
I´ve never seen before so many Interceptors at one place. In Germany
I know only from two Interceptors from one Owner, he is member in the
REOC.
And my friend has got my old one, Interceptor MK I from 1967 - US model
- clubman

Aluminium alloy-cylinders for the Interceptors - Volker
Koch (November 6, 2002)
I´ve just had some Internet-contact with "www.stroehle.de"
the firm which will produce those Aluminium alloy-cylinders for the
Interceptors. They believe that they can offer them from January next
year on. The price isn´t calculated yet.
Best regards
Volker from Germany
Hi Volker
Thank you for your feedback
You'd be interested to hear about Klaus, who actually run his Interceptor
with these cylinders
I will post his feedbacl and pictures next week.
It sounds good.

Hi Royal,
man...I´m kicked outa my boots from your prompt answering....
Here it´s just few around 3 o´clock in the afternoon, dark
grey skies and ´round five degrees Celsius...f...in´ cold´n
wet...horrible...
However...that bloke from "Ströhle" wrote to me that
the cylinders which they got photographed was a "prototype"...an
interesting thing, that you know the guy who is usin´em...?!?!!!
I´ve been stumbling ´bout your website from takin´a
look into that one from the english REOC and - man - I must tell you,
I´ve never seen such an excellent one before...it´s giantic
great...!!! Really!!!
Ok, ok, comin´back to earth...a fella of mine told me a fortnight
ago, that he´s just rebuilding an Interceptor-engine for another
bloke, who brought him some Alu alloy cylinders for the rebuild, too???
Think, I´ll take a look for him and ask him, where they´re
from...
Me, I´m just lookin´for some parts to get a Connie restored.
The bike is a 1961 (I believe) bathtube Connie with a really large tank
and all these things, which make those divine racing-horses getting
mutated to brewery-horses, which can´t get allowed!!! So I´m
searching for Interceptor-Scrambler-parts, what made me get to your
site...
...and as I´m still at work (don´t tell nobody, ok?)...I´ll
have to do something for my boss again..
´til next time take care
and best regards
Volker

Homebrew fiberglass tank(November 09 2002)
Received your email Tuesday when i got home from work (offshore). Always
happy to hear from others with similiar interests. Had to get one of
my two "new" interceptors running so i put the 500 engine
from my cafe enfield (norton forks, homebrew fiberglass tank and seat)
in it.
I love these bikes. Have since high school when i had a new 67 sportster
and a friend had a 67 interceptor. Have started to shine it. Would like
to send pictures one day.
Does anyone know if there is a cafe style tail section available for
a Mk1A Interceptor that looks like the one being offered for the new
Indian Bullets? If so, I would be interested in buying one. Contact
me at rforfar@optonline.net
I have begun to round up parts for my "new" Interceptors.
I almost immediately found my previoous parts source (accessory mart)
seems to have nearly dried up. I know someone out there has sourced
hard parts like bearings, rings, seals, etc. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks Howard , Kiln, Mississippi
Hi Howard,
Kickan (my wife) is completely rebuilding and renovating her Interceptor
-69, from the crankshaft and out, each washer, spring, nut, seal, bushing,
etc.
She's even un-spoked the wheel rims, rechromed , fitting stainless spokes,
etc.
The majority of new and replacement parts she's sourced from Hitchcock's
(see links on our web page) she has also sent from some parts from Baxters,
also contact details off our web site under links.
Good luck and remember to take photos during build.

Thanks for info. Over the years I've collected parts for about five+
RE twins with one running 500 engine. I put it in an RE frame with Norton
forks, rear wheel and Kawasaki front wheel. I have almost been ashamed
to let
it be seen but it runs good has such a nice sound. Now I have parts
of most
of three bikes and decided to "do it".
This story can and will go on for a while so I won't bore you, but
would like to join your group. I will get details from website.
thanks

Easy way to tell Connies and Inters apart,(November
18 2002)
Monday, 18 November 2002 12:43 PM
Hi,
Never posted to the group. I have an Indian made Bullet which I love.
Would like to get a Redditch made RE though.
Anyway. Rode my Bullet one day and had a guy tell me he had two RE
twins in his barn and was I interested. Well, of course.
This is what he had:
Indian branded twin block and tranny in frame with RE branded tank,
most of the bike there sans the handle bars and controls vintage unkown,
had the famous nacelle
Incterceptor, unknown year thought ot be early one
modified to be a chopper though the frome was untouched
not run in 12-13 years, present owner said it ran good at time
turned over and appeared to have compression
He wants $1600 for both. I wanted to know what everyone thought,
i.e. is it a deal? I have never approached sch a thing before. I
am somewhat mechnially adept but I am not a mechanic.
One further note. Not necessarily important but the 2 bikes were
in a barn with about 15 other bikes all in various states of
disrepair. This guy knows something about bikes and has been
riding for some time.
Thanks
David
Sounds like an o'kay deal. Bob
Hello,
Actually I may be wrong. The bike that is the chopper may be a
Connie.
Did all MK 1 Interceptors have removable covers for the cams on
the left side of the bike? I think that they did but can not
confirm for certain. There is a picture of a 63 in the Roy Bacon
book and it has removable covers. If so then the bike I saw is a
Connie.
Thanks
David
I beleive Connies where only 700c.c.s Try Sam Avellino he should know.
later,
Bob
Yes, Connies were all 700cc.
There's an easy way to tell Connies and Inters apart, aside from the
serial
number on the crankcases: When looked at from above, the fins on the
cylinders and heads on Connie engines are tapered front to back, whereas
Inters are symmetrical (consequently, the fins look more "full"
on an
Inter). Similarly, the Inter cylinders are interchangeable left to right,
whereas Connies are handed left and right.

Cafe style tail section available for a Mk1A (November
27 2002)
Does anyone know if there is a cafe style tail section available for
a Mk1A Interceptor that looks like the one being offered for the new
Indian Bullets? If so, I would be interested in buying one. Rick , Howell,

Try Burton Bike Bits. user@bbbbot.fsnet.co.uk They have cafe tail
sections, but I think they have to be used with their fiberglass
tank. Still wourth a try!
